Thank you to Parklands for hosting our Wānanga Week this term. Attendance at the after school sessions was high and the Impact Coaching sessions were well received. Hopefully a number of schools will have fully accredited Impact Coaches by midway through next term.
Keep trying and using the key strategies that we have been learning about in your own classrooms. Share successes and failures and questions and learnings with other staff in your school. Everyone should be talking about Co-construction and High Expectations. Check out our resources page on this website for further inspiration. PLGs also had their first official meeting. Motueka High School classrooms were full of teachers all getting to know each other and co-constructing the expectations and tikanga for their groups. Remember that the PLG meetings next term and beyond are a place for you to share your inquiry with other professionals. Consequently you will be able to deepen your understanding of the profile as they in turn share their inquiries with you. Looking forward, Week 4, Term 2 is our next Wānanga Week.

![]() The library at Motueka High School, played host to this session with a number of colleagues from our Kāhui Ako. After sharing our reasons and motivations for joining the group, it was clear that the afternoon was going to be collaborative and beneficial for all. We were privileged to have a wealth of knowledge and experience within the room, and a desire to share openly around these questions: What’s working well for your school? – programmes, approaches, interventions, What questions, challenges, issue are we facing and how we can support each other? James Monaghan presented data and information coming through from contributing school around achievement and Maths capabilities. This evoked a range of conversation about the Math's entry assessment, as well as the importance of transition information about the Year 8 students. The afternoon finished with discussions around interventions already being used within Motueka Kāhui Ako schools, to develop mathematical learning relationships. The next wānanga has been planned for 12th March Week 6, Term 1 2019, at Lower Moutere School. Cognition returned in Week Three and ran PLD sessions on Co-construction and High Expectations that were highly engaging. They also delivered a second session for Impact Coaches and Guiding Coalitions. These were most useful and quite challenging. Plenty to work on!
The principals continue to meet regularly with the Lead Team and planning for 2019 is well under way. Looking forward to Week Six when Cognition return again. Term 3 Week 9 saw our within school teachers meeting together at Motueka High School to build a picture with all parts of our puzzle.
We debriefed Impact coaching and work with Cognition, discussed how we communicate/share RBL ideas throughout our schools, updated progress with Transition, PACT and data information and began to look at ideas for a Maths wananga in term 4 and ideas moving forward. There was plenty of hearty discussion and questions arising, a really positive and forward thinking hui. Thanks to all who attended, Rachel & team for the kai and Motueka High school for hosting us. Kaiako and principals came together last week for our first wananga week of learning with Cognition. Laurayne and Louise worked with Guiding coalitions, teachers and soon to be impact coaches. It was awesome to see the great turn out- especially at our after school RBL sessions about co-construction & high expectations. We hope you came away with ideas about what these aspects could look like in your own class & school.
Impact coaches are now busy familiarising themselves with the observation tool and practising, firstly on themselves. Guiding coalitions from each school will be thinking about what their first focus is and planning actions around this. Lots of food for thought! Next: *Anyone who attended any of the workshops should give feeback via this link: http://bit.ly/EvalsTKAoM * Week 3, Term 4 Cognition will be back in Motueka to lead us through the next steps with our RBL learning. The workshops and timetable will be published very soon. *Within & Across school teachers can help with locating readings and follow up information in relation to the RBL profile (through our shared folder) TERM 4 2018 Week 3 Oct 29th-Nov 1st -Wananga Week with Cognition
This will follow on from the learning opportunities we have this term. Impact Coaching will be further developed and there will be a similar booking system for other PLD. 2019 Teacher Only Day with Cognition is confirmed for 31 January 2019 PLD with Cognition in Week 4 of each term. Kia ora koutou,

TRANSITION TEAM UPDATEThe transition from Primary to Secondary has been a reoccurring topic of conversation in many areas of our learning community. So as of Term 2 this year, a transition team was put together to lead an inquiry into our current practices and how we could improve them. The Transition Team has been meeting regularly to work on this inquiry. At the moment there are three strands to the Inquiry:
As part of this inquiry, there was a Transition Teachers Meeting, held on the 18th of June at Motueka South School, between current Year 8 teachers in our Kahui Ako schools and selected Motueka High School staff. This meeting involved free-flowing group discussions around transition, to help inform and gather wider input and ideas. It was a very useful session, with a wealth of reflections, ideas, expertise and questions collected by the transition team. The next stage of the Transition team's work will involve creating a survey for Year 8 teachers to conduct with their Year 8 students during Term 3. The survey questions were co-constructed as part of the group discussions at the Transition Teachers Meeting in June. Transition Team: Three principals; John Prestidge, Michael Harrison and Sonia Gianelly, and two Across School Teachers; Vicki Karetai and Vicki McKerrow, make up the transition team. A SMALL BITE OF THE APPLE![]() Wow, what an awesome turn out and event we had with Laurayne from Cognition on Monday 11th June. Laurayne helped launch our understanding of the Relationships Based Learning profile which is based on the work of Russell Bishop. It was fantastic to see Kaiako, Leaders, RTLB, support staff and BOTs well represented from all our 14 schools. The Motueka High School hall was a-buzz with positive professional whakaaro & korero. An exciting, personalised and authentic journey awaits! Many many thanks to everyone who came; Moeke Paaka for an inspirational opening, MHS for your welcome, facilities & tech crew, the Tuck shop team for the exceptional kai, and Laurayne Tafa for leading our learning.
