TRANSITION TEAM UPDATEThe transition from Primary to Secondary has been a reoccurring topic of conversation in many areas of our learning community. So as of Term 2 this year, a transition team was put together to lead an inquiry into our current practices and how we could improve them. The Transition Team has been meeting regularly to work on this inquiry. At the moment there are three strands to the Inquiry:
As part of this inquiry, there was a Transition Teachers Meeting, held on the 18th of June at Motueka South School, between current Year 8 teachers in our Kahui Ako schools and selected Motueka High School staff. This meeting involved free-flowing group discussions around transition, to help inform and gather wider input and ideas. It was a very useful session, with a wealth of reflections, ideas, expertise and questions collected by the transition team. The next stage of the Transition team's work will involve creating a survey for Year 8 teachers to conduct with their Year 8 students during Term 3. The survey questions were co-constructed as part of the group discussions at the Transition Teachers Meeting in June. Transition Team: Three principals; John Prestidge, Michael Harrison and Sonia Gianelly, and two Across School Teachers; Vicki Karetai and Vicki McKerrow, make up the transition team. A SMALL BITE OF THE APPLE![]() Wow, what an awesome turn out and event we had with Laurayne from Cognition on Monday 11th June. Laurayne helped launch our understanding of the Relationships Based Learning profile which is based on the work of Russell Bishop. It was fantastic to see Kaiako, Leaders, RTLB, support staff and BOTs well represented from all our 14 schools. The Motueka High School hall was a-buzz with positive professional whakaaro & korero. An exciting, personalised and authentic journey awaits! Many many thanks to everyone who came; Moeke Paaka for an inspirational opening, MHS for your welcome, facilities & tech crew, the Tuck shop team for the exceptional kai, and Laurayne Tafa for leading our learning.
