The transition from Primary to Secondary has been a reoccurring topic of conversation in many areas of our learning community. So as of Term 2 this year, a transition team was put together to lead an inquiry into our current practices and how we could improve them.
The Transition Team has been meeting regularly to work on this inquiry. At the moment there are three strands to the Inquiry:
As part of this inquiry, there was a Transition Teachers Meeting, held on the 18th of July at Motueka South School, between current Year 8 teachers in our Kahui Ako schools and selected Motueka High School staff. This meeting involved free-flowing group discussions around transition, to help inform and gather wider input and ideas. It was a very useful session, with a wealth of reflections, ideas, expertise and questions collected by the transition team. The next stage of the Transition team's work will involve creating a survey for Year 8 teachers to conduct with their Year 8 students during Term 3. The questions were co-constructed as part of the group discussions at the Transition Teachers Meeting in July.
